CDS experts call for better transport services in Nigeria

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, emphasized the importance of improving transport services in Nigeria during the 2024 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) conference. He highlighted that an efficient transportation system is crucial for successful operations, especially in combating criminal activities.

Musa and other experts stressed the need for a well-planned society with multiple transportation options such as road, rail, water, and air travel. They identified the lack of an effective transportation model as a major factor contributing to the high cost of commodities in the market.

The President of CILT, Mfon Ekong Usoro, called for the implementation of the National Transportation Policy to address the challenges in the industry. The policy aims to integrate transport planning and implementation, fostering development and competitiveness.

The keynote speaker, Dr. George Banjo, supported the implementation of the policy to enhance performance and reduce inconsistencies in the transportation chain. The conference also recognized the efforts of individuals like Pius Akutah from the Nigerian Shippers Council for their contributions to the transport and logistics sector in Nigeria.
