Cases cited include a Canadian man linked to illegal shipments worth over $80 million and a Canadian-Russian couple supplying components for Russian drones. Montreal-based companies Aimtec and EXFO were also named in a leaked list, although they denied supplying components to Russia. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed cooperation with international agencies to enforce sanctions, but no charges have been pressed under Canada’s sanctions regime. Analyst Lucas Webber suggested staffing inadequacies as a reason for the lack of action, also noting Moscow’s expertise in circumventing sanctions. The US Disruptive Technology Strike Force is collaborating with the Canada Border Services Agency to tackle the issue. This highlights the need for stronger enforcement measures to prevent further illicit trade and support international efforts against Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
