At an upcoming summit in Croatia, Balkan leaders will show their united support for Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russian aggression. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will gather with leaders from 12 regional states to discuss increased military aid and solidarity in the fight for freedom.
The summit, set in Dubrovnik, serves as the third “Ukraine-Southeast Europe” meeting, with Zelensky emphasizing the need for additional support to combat Russian forces. Specifically, he hopes for clearance to use long-range weapons provided by allies to target military sites in Russia.
This gathering precedes a larger international meeting in Germany to address further military assistance for Ukraine. As uncertainty looms with the upcoming US election, where support for Ukraine may be at risk, Zelensky continues to seek backing from allies.
Despite internal conflicts in Croatia regarding support for Ukraine, Zelensky is expected to solidify a long-term cooperation agreement with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. This agreement will focus on sharing Croatia’s experiences in conflict prosecution and mine removal. Joining forces, the Balkan nations aim to demonstrate unwavering support for Ukraine in its time of need.
