Afghan national Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi has been charged by a US federal court for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on Election Day in the United States on behalf of the Islamic State terrorist group, according to the US Department of Justice. Tawhedi, currently seeking asylum in Oklahoma City, entered the US after the completion of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. FBI investigators found evidence of his communication with IS-linked individuals and his interest in terrorist activities. Tawhedi was arrested during an undercover operation, admitting to planning an attack targeting large gatherings on Election Day. He faces up to 35 years in prison for conspiring to provide support to IS and receiving a firearm for a terrorist act.
