Yunus: Bangladesh and India must stay close

The recent regime change in Bangladesh has raised concerns about bilateral relations with India, but the interim government’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus believes that a strong relationship between the two countries is crucial for their mutual benefit. Despite recent tensions, Yunus emphasizes the importance of close ties in various aspects such as economics, security, and water resources.

Yunus also highlights the significance of maintaining good relations with both India and China, positioning Bangladesh as a bridge between two economic giants. Emphasizing the value of regional cooperation, he advocates for strengthening ties within the SAARC framework and pursuing ASEAN membership.

As the interim government focuses on domestic reforms, Yunus emphasizes the importance of judicial reform for a fair and transparent system. While the possibility of Hasina’s extradition and the ban on her party are not within their purview, the government is committed to creating a conducive environment for justice to prevail.

Yunus’s vision for Bangladesh is one of collaboration, progress, and unity within the region, paving the way for a brighter future for the country.
