US commemorates October 7 attack, Gaza protests spark in Israel | Israel-Palestine conflict Updates

On the one-year anniversary of the Hamas-led attack on Israel, US President Joe Biden reaffirmed his support for the country. The attack, which took place on October 7, resulted in the death of 1,139 people and the capture of around 250 others in the Gaza Strip. Biden condemned the brutality of the assault but drew criticism for not expressing the same level of anger over Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, which has killed over 41,900 Palestinians.

Despite facing calls to condemn Israel’s actions and condition US assistance, Biden, known as a staunch defender of Israel, has continued to support the country with military aid amounting to billions of dollars.

On this solemn anniversary, protests erupted across the US as activists denounced the Biden administration’s perceived complicity in Israel’s war on Gaza. Meanwhile, US Vice President Kamala Harris, a presidential candidate, also condemned the October 7 attacks, vowing to eliminate the threat posed by Hamas.

As the US election approaches, tensions remain high between the Democratic and Republican camps regarding their stance on Israel and the ongoing conflict in the region.
