Exciting Updates on Government Payments and Reform Legislation
Today, Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys will announce the payment dates for the cost-of-living supports outlined in the Budget. The upcoming Finance Bill and Social Welfare Bill, set to be presented to Cabinet, will bring these measures into effect once passed by the Oireachtas.
Confirmed payment dates include a double payment for pensioners, carers, and people with disabilities in late October, with a Christmas bonus following in early December. Child benefit payments will be doubled on specific dates in November and December. Additional payments for Working Family, Disability Support, and fuel allowance recipients will also be issued in early November.
In other news, Minister for Media Catherine Martin plans to introduce the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill to assign the Comptroller and Auditor General as the auditor for RTÉ, aiming to enhance transparency and efficiency in how RTÉ and TG4 are assessed. This bill aligns with the recommendations of the Future of Media Commission and aims to support the production and distribution of public service content through a new Media Fund.
