Ukraine reports 250 Russian chemical attacks in September

In September, 250 cases of Russian invasion troops using specialized ammunition with hazardous chemical substances against Ukraine’s Defense Forces were recorded. According to the Support Forces Command, the enemy continues to employ munitions with hazardous chemicals, violating warfare rules and conventions. Radiation, chemical, and biological monitoring units of Ukraine’s Support Forces recorded 250 such incidents in September 2024, with a total of 4,228 cases since February 2023. This systemic use of hazardous chemicals by the Russians during their large-scale invasion of Ukraine demonstrates a blatant disregard for international norms.

The Command of Support Forces emphasized that Russia’s actions grossly violate the Convention on the prohibition of the development, production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons. In August, Russian troops launched 447 attacks using hazardous chemical substances against the Defense Forces. This highlights the urgent need for accountability and transparency in conflict zones. The continued use of dangerous chemical substances in warfare poses serious risks to the safety and well-being of civilians and military personnel.

Such violations must be addressed with utmost urgency to prevent further harm and ensure international peace and security.
