The United Kingdom has taken a stand against Russia’s use of chemical weapons in Ukraine by issuing sanctions against specific Russian units and individuals involved in such acts. Among those sanctioned are Russia’s Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defence Troops, their chief Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, and two scientific centers under the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to a Kyiv Independent investigation, Russia’s use of gas attacks in Ukraine has been increasing, with over 4,000 cases of Russian chemical agents being recorded since the start of the full-scale invasion. The UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, emphasized that the UK will not tolerate such violations of international law.
The US Department of State has also condemned Russia’s use of riot control agents as a method of warfare, violating the Chemical Weapons Convention. The international community remains vigilant against Russia’s aggressive tactics, such as deploying chemical weapons to gain tactical advantages on the battlefield.
The fight against these unethical practices continues, with efforts to hold Russia accountable for its actions in Ukraine. Let us stand together in support of Ukraine against these egregious violations.
