A heartbreaking tragedy has struck a family in Akure, Ondo State, as a mother and her four grandchildren passed away from suspected food poisoning after consuming pap. Ademola Adeola, the distraught man who lost his loved ones, is demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.
The family, residing at Gaga Street, Oke Aro, Akure, is mourning the loss of Mrs. Esther Adeola and her four young grandchildren aged nine, eight, six, and three. Mrs. Adeola died shortly after consuming the pap, while the children faced severe vomiting and stomach pain before succumbing the following day.
Ademola rushed his ailing children to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Akure, but sadly, they did not survive. He expressed frustration over the alleged lack of necessary facilities and appropriate treatment at the hospital.
Despite the family’s grief, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, refuted claims of negligence by the hospital staff. The Ondo State Police Command has also visited the family’s residence to investigate the tragic deaths, although no formal report was filed.
