Terrorism poses major threat to peace, security in Africa: S.African FM

Africa continues to grapple with the threat of terrorism and violent extremism, with South Africa’s foreign minister highlighting the spread of these challenges across the continent. In particular, the situation in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province is a significant concern for the Southern African region.

Militant groups have caused chaos in northern Mozambique, prompting South Africa to pledge troops to support the SADC mission in the country. Beyond Mozambique, terrorist organizations like Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram pose threats in other parts of Africa.

Amidst this turmoil, the Sahel region is also experiencing a resurgence of violence. South Africa is actively involved in seeking solutions to conflicts in regions like the DRC and Sudan. Despite these challenges, the country remains committed to supporting peace initiatives in South Sudan and Libya.

As a longstanding advocate for conflict resolution in Africa, South Africa continues to play a key role in diplomatic efforts to address conflicts on the continent. The country’s leadership is focused on promoting stability and democracy across Africa, emphasizing the importance of international attention and support for ongoing peace efforts.
