Sydney hosts first-ever nature positive summit

The world’s first nature positive summit kicked off in Sydney, aiming to drive investment in nature and enhance its protection and restoration. Leaders from various sectors gathered to tackle global biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation over the three-day event.

Hosted by the Australian federal and New South Wales state governments, the summit was spearheaded by Australian Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek, who emphasized the need for collective action to support nature. On the eve of the summit, a coalition of Australian businesses and financial institutions, including Qantas and Wesfarmers, launched Nature Positive Matters to promote nature-conscious practices in the corporate world.

Plibersek highlighted the importance of incorporating nature’s value into economic decision-making, noting that without such considerations, nature would continue to deteriorate. The summit aims to inspire businesses to measure their impact on nature and take proactive steps for conservation.
