The Abia State Police Command refutes claims circulating on social media that its officers demanded N100,000 each from 10 suspects for bail in Aba. According to Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the allegations were made by a social media blogger, not based on truth.
An investigation revealed that the claims stemmed from a complaint filed by Life Stock Feed PLC Aba, leading to the arrest of suspects involved in misappropriation and theft. The post’s complainant, Samuel Okoye, failed to attend a police invitation after alleging extortion.
The command emphasized the importance of verifying information before posting online and vowed to take action against unprofessional behavior. It also highlighted the confession of one suspect regarding fraudulent activities within the company, urging compliance with the law.
While ensuring transparency, the Abia State Police Command urged the public to avoid defamatory statements and promised to address any misconduct within its ranks.
