The Oyo State government is committed to boosting its economy through culture and tourism, as highlighted by the upcoming Yemoja Ibadan Festival. The festival, set to run from October 10 to October 27, aims to celebrate, promote, and preserve traditional heritage.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, emphasized the importance of honoring the deity Yemoja, known for symbolizing motherhood and fertility. The festival serves as a way for communities to express gratitude and reverence for Yemoja’s role in their lives.
Additionally, the state government is working with various stakeholders to revamp indigenous festivals as part of the Omituntun 2.0 Agenda. Activities during the Yemoja Festival will include offerings to various deities, performances, visits to motherless babies’ homes, and a festival tour to AfriChatta Film Village.
Aare Isese of Oyo State, Aare Omikunmi Egbelade, praised Governor Seyi Makinde for supporting traditional adherents and promoting cultural unity. He also urged the government to support the Yemoja Festival in obtaining UNESCO recognition as a World Heritage Festival.
Overall, the Yemoja Ibadan Festival serves as a platform to celebrate tradition, unity, and cultural heritage in Oyo State.
