KARACHI Street Crime Statistics for September 2024 Revealed by CPLC
The Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) in Karachi has released shocking statistics regarding street crimes in the city for September 2024. The data shows a distressing trend of rising street crimes in Karachi, with a total of 5,533 cases reported last month.
Among the reported incidents, 3,982 cases were related to motorcycle theft or snatching, 190 involved car theft or snatching, and 1,651 mobile phones were snatched from citizens. The statistics also highlight five extortion cases and two kidnapping for ransom incidents during the same period.
The surge in street crimes has had dire consequences, with nearly 100 fatalities resulting from snatching incidents alone in the first nine months of the year. The city recorded 15,000 mobile phone thefts, 35,000 motorcycle thefts, and approximately 1,200 vehicle thefts or snatchings.
One tragic incident involved a man named Abdul Malik, who was killed while resisting a robbery in Karachi’s Korangi area. The CCTV footage captured the harrowing confrontation, emphasizing the urgent need for effective measures to curb street crimes in the city.
