Mbalula hints at possible disbanding of KZN, Gauteng PECs

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has revealed discussions about potentially disbanding the KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provincial executive committees (PECs) within the party. However, no final decisions have been reached yet. Mbalula stated that the idea of disbandment was brought up during a recent national working committee (NWC) meeting but emphasized that no concrete steps have been taken.

Reports from the Sunday Times suggested that the axe could fall on the KZN and Gauteng PECs due to the party’s poor performance in the recent elections. With a majority of NWC members reportedly in favor of disbanding the structures, the fate of the two provinces hangs in the balance pending a recommendation to the national executive committee (NEC).

Despite delays in decision-making, Mbalula emphasized the importance of engaging with the provinces and regions before any action is taken. While the possibility of disbandment looms, the ANC may also opt for strategies to rebuild the organization. Ultimately, the future of the KZN and Gauteng PECs remains uncertain as the ANC navigates its way forward.
