Man Convicted for Illegal Nazi Salute in Australia

A 25-year-old man has made headlines in Victoria, Australia, as the first person to be convicted for performing an illegal Nazi salute. Jacob Hersant, a self-described neo-Nazi, was filmed making the salute and praising Adolf Hitler outside the Victoria County Court on an unrelated charge.

Despite arguments from his defense, a magistrate upheld the legislation outlawing the gesture, which had been implemented just six days prior by the Victoria state government. This decision was later mirrored by the Federal Parliament, extending the ban on Nazi hate symbols across Australia.
