Israel kills 56 Palestinians, pushing Gazan death toll toward 42,000

The death toll in Gaza due to Israel’s military offensive has risen to nearly 42,000, with 56 more deaths reported in a 24-hour period. The Palestinian health ministry in Gaza also reported that over 97,000 people have been wounded in the ongoing assault since October 7, 2023.

In the latest attacks, Israeli forces killed 56 people and injured 278 others in three separate massacres. Many are still trapped under rubble, making rescue efforts difficult.

17 killed at refugee camp

Earlier, an Israeli strike at a refugee camp claimed the lives of at least 17 people, including children. The civil defense agency in Gaza reported multiple injuries and casualties, with some taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Despite international calls for a cease-fire, Israel has continued its offensive, leading to displacement of the Gaza population and severe shortages of essential supplies like food and medicine. Efforts to reach a cease-fire and prisoner swap between Israel and Hamas have failed, with Israel facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
