Over 700 Israeli troops have lost their lives in the deadliest conflict in Israel in the last five decades. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a casualty list stating that 726 troops have been killed and over 4,500 soldiers have been injured since the war in Gaza started a year ago. Among the casualties, 346 soldiers died during ground operations in Gaza that began on October 27 last year.
This death toll is the highest Israel has seen in any military conflict since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The IDF also mentioned that the actual number of casualties could be higher as the current count only includes names permitted for publication.
Furthermore, the IDF reported that 56 troops died due to friendly fire or operational accidents. The ongoing conflict has also resulted in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, mostly women and children, with conflicting reports on casualties from different sources. The IDF claimed to have eliminated 17,000 members of Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza since the start of the war.
Additionally, in Lebanon, approximately 800 terrorists have been killed, including 90 Hezbollah commanders. The conflict has also taken a toll on civilians, with Lebanon reporting a death toll of over 2,000 people since last October.
