IGP: PTI protesters caused Rs154m damage to official property

In a recent turn of events, chaos erupted in Islamabad during a protest organized by PTI supporters. The protest turned violent, resulting in the tragic death of a police officer, Constable Abdul Hameed Shah, who was injured during the rioting. The protesters reportedly damaged official property worth over Rs154 million, including numerous cameras, vehicles, and motorcycles.

IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi condemned the violent acts, labeling them as terrorism rather than a peaceful protest. He revealed that miscreants used official resources from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including police weapons and tear gas shells, during the protest.

A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the use of KP’s official resources in the rally, and 10 cases have been registered against the miscreants involved. The police have arrested 878 protesters, including 120 Afghans and eight KP police officials.

The funeral of Constable Abdul Hameed Shah was held with full honors, attended by Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi and other senior officials. Additionally, 10 women supporters of PTI, including Imran Khan’s sisters, have been remanded into custody.

This incident has not only resulted in a loss of life but has also raised concerns about the misuse of official resources. The authorities are taking steps to ensure justice and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
