The survey of over 2,000 individuals highlights a concerning uptick in online harms like cyberstalking and exposure to sexual content, leading to increased anxiety and decreased confidence among young users.
This issue is compounded by the prevalence of sexism and misogyny in both real life and online interactions, with 85% reporting sexism in their daily lives. These experiences contribute to feelings of vulnerability and insecurity, affecting the way girls perceive themselves and their future.
Amid rising concerns, Girlguiding advocates for comprehensive education on relationships, sex, and health in schools to combat sexism and misogyny. The organization urges for a safer online environment where girls can thrive without the constant pressure and judgment.
