Hamas military spokesperson: Israel could have freed captives a year ago.

In a 25-minute video commemorating the one-year anniversary of the 7 October Hamas-led attacks on Israel, Abu Obeida, spokesperson for al-Qassam Brigades, warned of more potential Israeli captive deaths due to the risk posed by their guards. Blaming the Israeli government, he hinted at a grim fate for the captives still held in Gaza. Israel estimates around 100 captives remain out of the 251 captured in 2023, with some being killed in incidents disputed by both sides.

War of Attrition:

Abu Obeida emphasized an ongoing mission to weaken Israel and reclaim Palestinian land, noting the heavy sacrifices endured by Palestinian fighters and civilians. The conflict has seen sniper operations and ambushes in Gaza, resulting in casualties on both sides.

‘Policy of Assassinations’:

Discussing the Israel-led assassinations of Hamas leaders, Abu Obeida criticized the tactic as ineffective, pointing out continued resistance despite the killings. He highlighted past assassinations and condemned Israel’s approach as shortsighted.

Fighting in the West Bank:

Abu Obeida condemned Israeli airstrikes in the Tulkarm refugee camp and the Jenin refugee camp, emphasizing the plight of Palestinians in the West Bank facing displacement and extermination. He criticized the Israeli government’s expansionist policies and called for strength in confronting aggression.
