Government Makes Breakthrough in Talks with JUI Leader Over Proposed Constitutional Amendment
The government has successfully negotiated with JUI’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the upcoming 26th constitutional amendment, sources revealed on Tuesday. A key agreement has been reached between the government and the JUI Leader regarding the establishment of a constitutional court.
According to sources, the constitutional amendment will be presented in parliament after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) session set to take place on October 15 and 16 in Islamabad. The proposed amendment was extensively discussed in a meeting at the Presidency attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, PM Shehbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, culminating in the government accepting Fazlur Rehman’s suggestions regarding the amendment.
Senator Kamran Murtaza confirmed that the JUI has received a draft of constitutional amendment proposals from the People’s Party, but has yet to receive any from the PML-N. He emphasized the importance of receiving the government’s constitutional draft to move forward with the talks.
