Fu Cong pleads for caution to avoid escalating tensions in Middle East

A Chinese envoy, Fu Cong, emphasized the importance of restraint and diplomacy in preventing further escalation in the Middle East during a UN General Assembly meeting. Stressing the immediate need for peace in the region, he condemned violent attacks and called for respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Fu highlighted the unresolved conflict in Gaza and emphasized the urgency of reaching a comprehensive ceasefire. He advocated for a two-state solution to address the longstanding aspirations of the Palestinian people. Additionally, he urged parties involved in the Ukraine crisis to prioritize dialogue and peace.

Fu also underscored the importance of reforming the UN Security Council to ensure equitable representation and decision-making. Emphasizing the need to avoid geopolitical confrontations, he called for a more inclusive approach in addressing global conflicts.

Through the launch of the group of Friends for Peace, Fu outlined a commitment to upholding the principles of the UN Charter and fostering consensus for peaceful resolutions. Amid ongoing conflicts, he emphasized the international community’s expectation for a more proactive and inclusive Security Council.
