EU Imposes New Sanctions on Russia in Response to Hybrid Threats
The European Union announced on Tuesday new sanctions on Russia to address hybrid threats posed by the country. The EU Council stated that the framework aims to target individuals and entities engaged in actions that undermine the fundamental values of the EU and its member states.
The sanctions will include asset freezes, travel bans, and restrictions on funding from EU citizens and companies. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell emphasized the importance of sending a clear and united message against Russia’s activities, stating that destabilizing actions will have consequences.
The EU has previously imposed sanctions on Russia in response to its war in Ukraine and human rights violations. This new sanctions regime showcases the EU’s commitment to safeguarding its security, independence, and integrity.
