Durban trader on trial for supplying guns to Cape Town gang

A Durban gun shop owner is facing over 60 charges, including murder, for allegedly supplying firearms to a notorious criminal gang in Cape Town. Anderson Padayachee, who operated Anderson’s Guns and Ammo in Merebank Plaza, is accused of aiding and abetting criminal activities of the gang known as the “Terrible Josters”. The gang is known to operate within a specific territorial area where they engage in criminal activities.

The indictment states that Padayachee knew the firearms he sold could potentially be used by gang members to commit offenses. The state alleges that he failed to comply with the Firearms Control Act and received proceeds from unlawful activities related to selling firearms, parts, or ammunition.

The trial is set to determine Padayachee’s involvement in supplying weapons to the gang and his role in facilitating their criminal operations. The case highlights the serious consequences of illegal firearm sales and the impact it can have on communities.
