Surviving a Terrifying Ordeal on the Juba-Yei Road
Last Saturday, travelers along the Juba-Yei road were faced with a horrifying ambush that left them stripped nude and robbed of their valuables. Among the survivors was Bosco Bush, a journalist with the No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, who bravely shared his harrowing experience.
Bush, on his way back to Juba after visiting family in Yei, narrated a journey that began joyfully but quickly turned into a nightmare. The ambush took place in the forested area of Mankaro, Loka Boma, Lainya County in Central Equatoria State.
“We were about 20 miles from Yei when armed men emerged from the bush and halted our car at gunpoint,” Bush recounted. The assailants then forced the passengers, including four women and two children, out of the vehicle and into the forest to strip them of their belongings.
After looting the first car, a tipper lorry also fell victim to the ambush. The captives were ordered to undress and were further humiliated before being scattered into the bush by gunshots.
Despite the terrifying experience, Bush managed to find help and report the incident to authorities. While the assailants managed to escape before government forces arrived, the survivors were left traumatized by their harrowing ordeal.
“It felt like a horror movie come to life,” Bush said, reflecting on the terrifying incident.
