US sends .9 bn in military aid to Israel – Naharnet

A recent report from Brown University’s Costs of War project reveals that the United States has spent a staggering $17.9 billion on military aid to Israel since the start of the conflict in Gaza. This aid includes funding for military operations in the region, such as a Navy-led campaign to counter strikes on commercial shipping by Yemen’s Houthis.

In addition to the aid provided to Israel, the U.S. has allocated an extra $4.86 billion towards military operations in the Middle East since October 7, 2023. This includes efforts to support Israel in its conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as initiatives to deter and respond to attacks on Israeli and American forces.

The report highlights the extensive financial support the U.S. has provided to Israel, totaling $251.2 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars since 1959. The aid package includes military financing, arms sales, and equipment, with a significant portion going towards replenishing Israel’s missile defense systems.

Despite concerns about the financial costs and the impact on civilians, support for Israel remains a key priority for U.S. administrations. The Biden administration has emphasized its commitment to aiding Israel during the ongoing conflict, while also increasing military presence in the region to maintain stability.

The report raises questions about the transparency of U.S. aid to Israel and the complexities of military operations in the Middle East. As the conflict continues to evolve, the U.S. faces challenges in balancing its support for allies with the rising costs of intervention.
