Journalist Attempts Self-Immolation in Protest Against Media Framing of Israel’s War on Gaza

An American journalist from Arizona, Samuel Mena, made headlines when he attempted to self-immolate in Washington DC in protest against how the US media framed Israel’s war on Gaza and the killings of innocent Palestinians. Mena, who became overwhelmed by the biased coverage, attended a pro-Palestinian rally where he spoke out against objectivity in American newsrooms.

In a heartfelt speech, Mena criticized American journalists for creating an environment that distorts the truths of the world. He expressed solidarity with the children of Gaza and lit his arm on fire as a symbolic act of protest. Fortunately, he was quickly extinguished and hospitalised for non-life threatening injuries.

Mena’s protest echoes the sentiments of Aaron Bushnell, an earlier protester who tragically died after self-immolating in front of the Israeli embassy. Both men sought to draw attention to the ongoing violence in Gaza and challenge the norm of biased media coverage.

Despite facing consequences from his employer, Mena stands by his decision, stating that he joined journalism to serve the people and highlight the truth behind global conflicts. His bold act serves as a reminder of the power of individual voices in seeking justice and challenging oppression.
