Former Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen is embarking on an eight-day trip to the Czech Republic and two other European countries to strengthen Taiwan’s ties with Europe, despite potential objections from Beijing.
Tsai, who will leave on Saturday, will be accompanied by her successor, William Lai Ching-te, whom Beijing views as a “stubborn separatist.” Lai and Tsai recently discussed the trip and political climate, aiming to bolster Taiwan’s relationships with European nations.
Lai has instructed Taiwan’s National Security Council and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure Tsai’s safety during the visit, emphasizing her role as Taiwan’s advocate on the global stage.
Tsai’s trip aims to enhance Taiwan’s friendships with European countries. The details of the visit have not been disclosed, but an official announcement is expected once the plans are finalized.
