Sudanese Ministry of Health Reports Surge in Dengue Fever Cases Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Sudanese Ministry of Health has reported a significant increase in dengue fever cases, with 80 new cases bringing the total number to 773 across four states, resulting in three deaths. The outbreak is particularly severe in Karari locality in Khartoum State and Kassala.

Dr. Hiba Omar, head of the Sudanese Doctors Syndicate, highlighted the challenges faced in treating these cases due to a shortage of medicines and restrictions on aid delivery caused by government interference and attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Despite the obstacles, organizations are exploring alternative methods to provide aid, such as working through local networks to acquire necessary supplies. Unfortunately, health workers and volunteers continue to be targeted, further complicating relief efforts.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has led to a collapse of the health system in many areas, with essential services lacking in 13 states and minimal resources in others. Dr. Radwan Musa and Dr. Ihsan Faqiri expressed concerns about rising malnutrition rates and the spread of infectious diseases due to the destruction of infrastructure and decades of neglect in the health sector.
