Shashi Tharoor to Lead Committee on West Asia Crisis & India’s Neighbourhood Policy

The standing committee for external affairs, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, has selected 17 crucial subjects for discussion during its tenure. These topics will be deliberated over the coming months before the committee submits its report to Parliament. With the majority of members new to the panel, there is a keen interest in addressing key issues such as the situation in West Asia and its implications, as suggested by many committee members.

While Dr. Tharoor advocates for ministry officials to provide updates on the evolving West Asia scenario to the committee, no formal report is expected on this matter due to its complexity. Additionally, discussions on Indian migrants in the region, India’s neighborhood policy, and Passport Seva Kendras are planned. Notably, external affairs minister S Jaishankar has assured proactive engagement on these subjects, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace in conflict-prone regions. India’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East focus on peaceful resolutions and support for mediation between conflicting parties.

As the committee sets its agenda, the focus remains on addressing critical international issues that affect India’s strategic interests and global partnerships.
