The United States’ Massive Military Aid to Israel and Operations in Yemen

The United States has provided a staggering $22.76 billion in military aid to support Israel’s war on Gaza and operations against the Houthis in Yemen, as reported by Brown University’s Watson Institute. This includes a record-high annual total of $17.9 billion in military aid to Israel since the start of the conflict in Gaza a year ago.

Most of the military support to Israel consists of munitions, such as artillery shells and 2,000-pound bombs. The exact details of US military shipments to Israel remain somewhat obscured, with the Biden administration accused of concealing the full extent of aid provided.

Israel, the US’s strongest ally in the Middle East, has received an unprecedented $251.2 billion in military aid since 1959. However, the $17.9 billion allocated in a single year marks the highest amount ever sent to Israel.

Amid mounting civilian casualties in Gaza and Lebanon, American support for Israel’s actions has sparked controversy and criticism. Former US officials have condemned the US’s arms shipments to Israel, accusing the country of complicity in the devastation of Gaza.

Despite sporadic concerns over Israel’s conduct, President Biden has steadfastly backed Israel’s military efforts without imposing conditions on military aid, emphasizing his unwavering support for Israel.
