Pochalla learning disrupted by flood-damaged classrooms

Floods Devastate Education Facilities in Greater Pibor Administrative Area

The recent floods in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area have left a trail of destruction, especially in the education sector. The counties of Pochalla South and North have seen several schools devastated, leading to students having to study under trees.

According to County Education Director Moro Omot, seven schools were forced to shut down during the flooding, affecting 1,538 pupils. Although schools have now resumed classes and exams are being conducted, the damage to classrooms has left around 900 learners without proper facilities.

The situation has prompted pleas from both students and officials for aid agencies to step in. One student, Akello Omot, described the difficult conditions they are facing and appealed for assistance in rebuilding schools and providing necessary supplies.

Pochalla South County Commissioner Otho Okoti Abich highlighted the threat to the gains made in improving female enrollment due to the flood-induced setbacks. With over 1,500 students affected, urgent support is needed to ensure that education can continue in the region.
