Peshawar High Court to Hear Plea Against Amendment in SC Practice and Procedure Ordinance
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) is set to hear a plea against an ordinance that amends the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Ordinance. The Peshawar District Bar has challenged the ordinance, arguing that it is unlawful and should be declared null and void. The PHC bench, led by Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmed, will address the plea on Tuesday.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also challenged the amendment in the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act, with PTI chairman Barrister Gohar filing a petition seeking to declare it unconstitutional. The petition aims to halt the formation of a new Practice and Procedure Committee until the matter is heard in court.
According to Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, the amendment aims to enhance transparency in the judicial process by ensuring that cases are dealt with in the order they are received. Under the new ordinance, the Chief Justice will lead the committee overseeing practice and procedure in the Supreme Court.
