Operations against al-Shabaab in Somalia
The Somali National Army, with support from international partners, conducted successful operations against al-Shabaab in the central province of Galgadud. Over 100 terrorists were killed, and many others were wounded in the ongoing efforts to dismantle the militant group’s infrastructure.
The defense minister announced that the operations involve ground and air strikes, targeting key strongholds and leadership of al-Shabaab. Additionally, a new African Union peacekeeping mission will be launched next year to replace ATMIS, excluding Ethiopian forces unless certain agreements are revised.
Furthermore, Türkiye’s seismic research vessel, Oruc Reis, has been deployed to Somalia as part of a defense and economic pact signed earlier this year. This collaboration signifies a strengthening partnership between the two countries in combating terrorism and promoting economic development.
