Man Arrested for Alleged Rape of 10-Year-Old Girl in Lakes State
Police in Lakes State have arrested a man suspected of raping a 10-year-old girl in Cueibet County on Friday. The suspect was apprehended by the Cueibet security apparatus at a place called Thiang-tok after he allegedly attacked the girl while she was herding cattle in the forest.
Lakes State Police Spokesperson Maj Elijah Mabor Makuac confirmed the arrest and emphasized the importance of protecting children in the community. Lakes State Civil Society Network Chairperson Angelina Adhel Malual condemned the incident and called for increased vigilance in safeguarding children, especially when they are out in vulnerable situations.
Malual also urged the government to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure that the perpetrator faces prosecution. The State Director of Gender and Social Welfare highlighted the prevalence of rape cases in Lakes State and emphasized the need for stringent punishment to deter such crimes.
