Maimane criticizes Ramaphosa’s effort to enhance schools

Education should not be treated as a secondary priority, with budget cuts leading to overcrowded classrooms and teacher layoffs. The focus on education needs to be as strong as the focus on independent power producers, with attention to improving the quality of the education system in South Africa.

Last month, President Ramaphosa signed the Bela Bill into law, aiming to address challenges in the education system. However, concerns have been raised about its effectiveness in improving education quality. Opposition leader Maimane emphasized the need for real action to address the issues faced by the 13-million children attending failing schools in the country.

Ramaphosa, who chairs the Adopt-a-School Foundation, has been involved in refurbishing schools across the country since the early 2000s. He has pledged to visit schools district by district to understand their conditions and encourage successful individuals to give back to their communities. It’s time to prioritize education and ensure that every child has access to quality learning environments.
