South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit made significant changes to his office on Monday evening, replacing Executive Director Simon Juach Deng and Private Secretary Atak Santino Majak with Dominic Juk Chom and Deng Bona Bang, respectively. This move comes just five months after Deng and Majak were initially appointed.
President Kiir also appointed Simon Juach Deng as South Sudan’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe and Atak Santino Majak as the Undersecretary for Veteran Affairs in the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs. This decision led to the replacement of Gen Akec Tong Aleu, who is now the Director General of Internal Security Bureau in the National Security Services.
While the reasons for these changes were not specified, it is not uncommon for President Kiir to exercise his authority in appointing and removing officials, sometimes within a short time frame. This demonstrates his proactive approach to governance and leadership within the country.
