Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza has become the deadliest for journalists since World War II, with over 175 journalists killed. Among them is Palestinian journalist Islam al-Zaanoun, who returned to work just two months after giving birth amidst the conflict.
In the midst of Israeli airstrikes and chaos in Gaza, al-Zaanoun underwent a Caesarean section and fled the fighting with her three children, walking 8 kilometers to safety. Despite the challenges, she resumed reporting only 60 days later, emphasizing the dedication of journalists in conflict zones.
The lethal toll on journalists in Gaza has reached a staggering figure, with more than 130 Palestinian journalists killed within a year, and at least 127 media workers killed since the conflict began. The lack of international media access has heightened the risks faced by journalists in the region.
‘Where is international law?’
Journalists like al-Zaanoun not only face dangers in reporting but also struggle with displacement, hunger, and lack of resources due to the conflict. Despite facing grave personal risks, journalists continue to report from Gaza, highlighting the need for international protection and adherence to humanitarian laws.
