The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, recently visited the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing to oversee the facilities and assistance provided to individuals coming from Lebanon to Syria. Grandi expressed gratitude to the Syrian government for their cooperation and allowing all arrivals to enter Syrian territory without discrimination. The UNHCR, in collaboration with the Syrian government and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, plays a crucial role in coordinating responses to the refugee crisis.
As hundreds of people continue to enter Syria from various border points, Grandi highlighted the ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian situation. An appeal for donors will soon be launched from Damascus to gather donations and funds necessary to aid the current crisis. Having also visited Lebanon, Grandi emphasized the dire situation there with a significant number of Syrian expatriates, including Lebanese, Palestinians, and Sudanese nationals. The need for support and assistance remains paramount in addressing the complex refugee issue.
