Global momentum grows for Gaza genocide case against Israel – South African envoy

In a groundbreaking move in 2023, South Africa took Israel to the International Court of Justice, accusing it of genocide and other violations against Palestinians. The case highlighted years of Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank, alleging ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and genocide. The ICJ issued interim orders against Israel, demanding the prevention of genocidal acts and ensuring humanitarian aid to desperate Palestinians in Gaza.

In an exclusive interview, South Africa’s Ambassador to Tehran, Dr. Francis Moloi, discussed the parallels between Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and South Africa’s struggle against apartheid. South Africa’s historical support for Palestinian rights culminated in the legal case against Israeli genocide, backed by evidence submitted to the ICJ and the UN Security Council.

As the case progresses, with 18 countries supporting South Africa’s complaint, the prospect of a ruling against Israel looms. Despite concerns about Israel’s influence, South Africa remains confident in the ICJ’s commitment to justice. Collaboration between nations supportive of Palestinian rights aims to bring about concrete changes and end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

South Africa and Iran, with a rich history of cooperation, seek to strengthen ties and work together on international issues, promoting peace, freedom, and justice on a global scale.
