Georgia’s President Faces Second Impeachment Process
Georgia’s parliament speaker announced the initiation of a second impeachment process against President Salome Zourabichvili by the ruling party, Georgian Dream.
The move comes after Zourabichvili conducted unauthorized visits to European countries, violating constitutional norms.
The parliament majority also plans to submit a constitutional amendment to the country’s Constitutional Court before the upcoming elections.
The previous attempt at impeaching Zourabichvili failed in October, but the ruling party is determined to pursue the process ahead of the parliamentary elections.
Zourabichvili has yet to respond to the announcement.
