Exclusive: Are distributing North Korean leaflets for public good? Group maintaining ‘public interest organization’ status.

In a recent development, it has been confirmed that the organization ‘Korea Reunification Solidarity Federation’, known for distributing leaflets to North Korea, has maintained its status as a ‘public interest corporation’. This designation allows them to receive benefits when collecting donations. Despite concerns about its activities, the organization has managed to maintain this status, which provides tax advantages to donors.

The Korea Reunification Solidarity Federation has been actively distributing leaflets since 2010 and has raised significant amounts of donations. However, their actions have been criticized for endangering the lives of residents in border areas and creating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. There are also concerns that their activities violate aviation safety laws and copyright regulations.

In light of these violations, lawmaker Kwon called for the cancellation of their public interest corporation status. He emphasized the need to prioritize public safety and legal compliance over the organization’s activities. Moving forward, it will be crucial to address these issues and ensure that such actions do not compromise the safety and well-being of individuals in the region.
