Disagreement on New Warrap Governor’s Appointment

The residents of Warrap State in South Sudan are divided in their opinions on the frequent change of governors by President Salva Kiir. Some believe that the changes provide an opportunity for a fresh start, while others feel that it does little to improve security in the region.

Recently, Gen Akol Koor Kuc was appointed as the new Governor of Warrap, replacing Kuol Muor Muor. The decision was met with mixed reactions from the local community. Some, like Lual Malueth and Achuil Kuch, welcomed the change, citing the need for better relationships between the governor and local governments to address communal violence.

However, Athil Agany expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of changing governors in reducing communal conflicts. She emphasized the importance of promoting peace and understanding among the people of Warrap State.

Overall, there is hope that Governor Kuc, who has a background in national security, will be able to address the security challenges in the region and promote dialogue among conflicting communities. President Kiir’s decision to appoint and remove officials is seen as a routine aspect of governance in South Sudan.
