BiH Council of Ministers didn’t decide on Day of Mourning

The devastating floods and landslides in Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed at least 20 lives, prompting calls for a Day of Mourning to be declared. However, the Council of Ministers failed to reach a decision during an extraordinary session where only seven out of ten members voted.

While the Republic of Srpska declared October 8, 2024, as a Day of Mourning, the Federation government is yet to make a similar announcement. Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić had urged for a unified approach to the declaration, emphasizing the need for the entire country to mourn together.

Meanwhile, rescue operations continue in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton to find the missing individuals. The floods also caused significant material damage, prompting aid from neighboring countries, the European Union, and Turkey.
