Hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Senior Workshop on International Rules governing Military Operations (SWIRMO) is a significant event jointly organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan. This workshop has brought together high-ranking military officials from over 70 countries to discuss international humanitarian law.
Azerbaijan’s exemplary adherence to international humanitarian law, especially during the Second Karabakh War and subsequent military operations, has led to the selection of Baku as the venue for the 17th edition of SWIRMO. The seminar will cover various topics, including the history and activities of the ICRC, military law, integration of international humanitarian law, and its application in the Azerbaijani army.
The main objectives of this workshop are to enhance understanding of international rules governing military operations, address challenges faced in applying international humanitarian law on the modern battlefield, and integrate these laws into military planning.
