The Path to Net Zero: Accelerating Sustainability in Azerbaijan’s Cement Industry
Last month, the Azerbaijan Cement Producers Association (ASİA) hosted the 3rd workshop of the Net Zero Accelerator initiative, focusing on sustainable practices in the cement industry. The workshop delved into the final report of the “Net Zero Roadmap,” outlining strategies to reduce carbon emissions throughout the cement and concrete value chain.
Joining ASİA members in discussions were stakeholders from Azerbaijan’s concrete industry, construction companies, government bodies, and NGOs. Key topics included lowering the clinker factor, developing alternative fuels, enhancing construction design efficiency, and implementing carbon capture technologies.
With guidance from the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) and the European Cement Research Academy (ECRA), ASİA aims to align industry practices with national sustainability goals. The roadmap, once approved, will pave the way for Azerbaijan’s cement industry to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Anticipated to be unveiled at COP29, the final report signals a pivotal step towards a greener, more sustainable future for Azerbaijan’s cement and concrete sector.
