Attack in Karachi kills 2 Chinese workers

A recent explosion targeting a convoy of Chinese workers in Karachi, Pakistan, resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals, according to the Chinese embassy. The attack, claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army, underscores the security challenges faced by Chinese nationals in the region.

China is a crucial ally for Pakistan, with significant investments in infrastructure projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). However, these projects have led to resentment among separatist groups like the BLA, who accuse the government of unfair resource exploitation.

The attack on the convoy from the Chinese-funded Port Qasim power project left two Chinese citizens dead and several others injured. Both Chinese and Pakistani authorities have condemned the attack and pledged to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals.

In light of escalating security concerns, the incident comes ahead of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Pakistan, where multiple heads of state will gather to deepen regional ties. Beijing’s ongoing support for Islamabad underlines the strategic importance of their relationship.
