Armenia considers adapting South Korea’s K2 tank for mountains

Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan recently visited South Korea with the aim of potentially acquiring the advanced K2 Black Panther main battle tanks developed by Hyundai Rotem. During his trip, Papikyan also participated in the 2024 high-level meeting on Responsible Military Use of Artificial Intelligence (REAIM) organized by South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Furthermore, the Armenian minister took the opportunity to discuss the possibility of obtaining other South Korean weapons, with a specific interest in the K2 tank. The K2 main battle tank, known for its semi-active pneumatic suspension system, is ideal for navigating challenging terrains like mountainous regions.
